WON'T YOU CELEBRATE WITH US?
Two-Spirit, gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, queer, asexual, intersex, and questioning (2SLGBTQ+) people are all part of our FirstU community, so naturally we celebrate Pride! This year, along with our friends at Or Haneshamah and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ottawa, we've got plans for a variety of events to celebrate queers of faith during Pride Week - August 21-28. Check out the events below, and come celebrate with us! |
Sunday, August 21 - Pride Sunday at FirstU
10:30am - 30 Cleary AND on our YouTube Chanel We'll be kicking off Pride Week with our annual Pride Service! Join us on Sunday, August 21st, for a Pride Service centered on 2SLGBTQIA+ Family Experiences. Whether biological connections exist or not, we are connected by choice, by pride, by love. |
Wednesday, August 24: Pride On Screen
7:00 pm in the Sanctuary at 30 Cleary - Masks required Join us for a movie night this Wednesday! We'll be showing a series of 2SLGBTQIA short films, including Woman Dress, I Am Skylar, I Am Gay, and Beauty: Beyond Binary. Drop by FirstU on August 24 at 7pm to see what we've got in store, then stick around for social time and discussion afterwards. NOTE: Due to rising covid levels, we ask that you leave the popcorn at home and remember to wear your masks. |
Saturday, August 27: Pride Shabbat
10:30am at McNabb Park in Centretown Join Rabbi Liz, Ottawa's first openly gay rabbi, and our friends from Or Haneshamah at their Outdoor Pride Shabbat service on Saturday August 27. Be ready for a lively, song-filled Shabbat celebration, including some special musical guests, and followed by a picnic. Bring your yummy things, lawn chairs or blankets, and a friend or two. |
Sun Aug 28: Ottawa Pride Parade
Meet any time after 11:30am at Pride Staging Area 4 Everyone at FirstU is encouraged to come march in this year's Pride parade! Gather downtown after our Sunday Service (car-pooling from/to 30 Cleary will be available). We'll be marching with our friends from UUFO, and we hope you'll join us! Wear your most colourful clothes, hats, and masks, as there will be a crowd. |
LOCATION: We'll be in Staging area 4, between James and Florence on Kent street, at Noon.
NOTE 1: Weather is calling for HOT (feels like 32C) and humid. So remember to wear a hat (or carry your rainbow umbrella), and bring water and a salty snack or two. We'll be in the staging area for a while before the parade starts moving.
NOTE 2: If you have a folding camp chair that you can easily carry for the duration of the parade, we recommend that you bring it. If you don't need to use it, someone else will appreciate it. Bringing very young kids? We know you already know to bring the stroller.

Capital Pride, 2020
During the 2020 Capital Pride Week, Rev. Pat moderated an interfaith dialogue between religious leaders of three LGBTQ2S+ welcoming and affirming congregations in Ottawa: Rabbi Elizabeth Bolton of Or Haneshemah, Rev. Brian Cornelius of First United Church, and Fauzya Talib of Ottawa Valley Unity Mosque. This was a lively and intriguing conversation and a proud moment for FirstU to be able to bring this conversation to the wider public.
