Job Posting: Music director

click here for the job description

The First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa (FirstU) is one of Canada's largest Unitarian Universalist congregations, with nearly 300 people and a choral music program that involves approximately 80 choristers. These numbers may increase as the neighbourhood is expecting a surge in growth with an LRT station being built near the street entrance to our campus.    The Worship Hall is noted throughout Ottawa as a top-tier concert venue with excellent acoustics and a Steinway B piano.

We are seeking a creative, collaborative and inspiring Music Director for up to 26 hours per week, to continue the successful operation of the congregation's music program.  Starting date: Monday, August 16, 2021.

FirstU weaves its commitment to social and environmental justice throughout its programming and values a work environment that is free of discrimination, respects differences, and allows employees to bring their whole selves to work. We strongly encourage individuals from under-represented groups to apply for this position. If you require accommodation measures for the selection process, please notify us.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, FirstU has continued its active music program, both rehearsal and performance, mainly through use of Zoom technology. Plans are to increase live and hybrid music activities as public health restrictions lessen or end.
For more information about our congregation, our music program, and Unitarian Universalism, please visit our web-site at www.firstunitarianottawa.

Applicants should email their materials to fm@firstunitarianottawa.ca.

Application Deadline
Sunday, April 25, 11:59 p.m.
We encourage applicants to submit these applications as soon as possible.
All submissions will be acknowledged, but only finalists selected for interview will be contacted. Finalists will have a virtual meet and greet session with FirstU choristers as part of the selection process.

"We acknowledge that our campus is located on traditional, unsurrendered and unceded Algonquin Anishinaabeg Territory;
and that the work of reconciliation is a responsibility of our congregation, and of all Canadians.  "Our goal is to educate ourselves and all
who have ears to hear, to be of service to those who are at risk, and to advocate for justice.
