Information About Your Sunday Offering
The offerings collected each Sunday help us to live into our values within this congregation and in supporting many good works beyond our walls by highlighting a community partner organization each month to share with Flaming Chalice International.

Flaming Chalice International is the organization we are sharing our weekly collections with for the month of May. The full text below will be on our website. I need two shorter versions to use on Sunday. One very succinct and brief text that will fit on the back of the Order of Service, and another with a bit more detail to be read during the service to encourage donations during the offertory time. "Flaming Chalice International (FCI) is a CRA registered Charity that supports refugees in East Africa and community development projects in Burundi. FCI is currently involved in education projects like “the Brilliant Minds” project supporting brilliant students from families of low means and tuition support for university students.

FCI has helped build and maintain “Muhira Community center”, a gathering place where people are welcome without sectarian considerations and operates as community think thank where problems of youth, women and community at large are analysed, solutions implemented and lives changed by the people themselves who choose what needs to be done, who will do it and what kind of external help they need. This is the social structure we are most proud of. Our work is financially powered by Unitarians and the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa has been part of our work, over the years, through individual donations, collections, and more recently, sponsorship of Elvis and Landry. We are grateful. Much still needs to be done like the new project of teen mothers who need financial literacy and other practical skills and funds to work on businesses that uphold both their dignity and their safety. Thank you for being part of our work and changing people’s lives.

Our Annual Pledge Campaign
What is pledging all about? Pledging is your commitment to contribute financially over and only during the indicated fiscal year.
Why is it so important? Since pledges historically represent ~ 70% of our revenue, it is a critical part of the budgeting process. The budget is created using the pledge forecasted revenue which then is presented to the congregation for member approval at the Fall Congregational Meeting.
Without your pledge commitment, we cannot plan for FirstU’s financial commitments, sustainability, and programming for the coming year.
