Ancoura - A Place of Hope and Healing
Chris Jones, Executive Director of Ancoura, will speak about the recent history and evolution of the supportive housing charity. He will discuss the founding principles of the organization and how it continues to move forward in providing to its residents a nurturing environment that is free of stigma. He will also discuss how Ancoura is adapting to the persistence of the COVID 19 pandemic.
Dr. Christopher Jones has lived in Ottawa for over 20 years. He and his wife have 3 sons. He is a longtime association manager who has formerly been an aide to several politicians. He was previously the Executive Director of two national non-profit agencies. He ran as an independent candidate in the last Federal election in Ottawa Centre. He completed a doctorate in political economy at Oxford University in 1995, a Master of Science at the London School of Economics and a Bachelor degree
at at Queens University in Kingston.

Tackling Anti-Black Racism in Ottawa: A Conversation with Councillor Rawlson King
This year has seen a racial reckoning. The documenting of police brutality in both Canada and the US – including high profile killings of unarmed Black people – have led to a wave of protests on both sides of the border. People are once again demanding racial justice. But what can we do in our own backyard? Ottawa appointed the first liaison for anti-racism and ethnocultural relations this year, Councillor Rawlson King. Come hear his ideas for tackling anti-Black racism in Ottawa, Sunday October 25 at 9:00am on Zoom.

Kathryn is a member of the Pinaymootang First Nation in Manitoba and recently retired after 20 years at the former Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, where she focused on innovative policy approaches. Kathryn has long been active in Indigenous social justice work, including co-chairing the United Church of Canada’s Living into Right Relations Task Group which accompanied the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
