Unitarians unite to support proportional representation by attending the Fair Vote Canada (FVC) rally on Parliament Hill on September 19 at 12:00 p.m. (If Canada replaced ourcurrent electoral system of first past the post with proportional representation it would mean that every person’s vote would
count). At the rally FVC will be launching its Make Every Vote Count campaign leading up to the 2015 federal election. Leader of the NDP Thomas Mulcair, among others, will be a speaker at the rally. Support one of our Unitarian principles to ensure that the democratic process is used in our society! For more information contact Sharon Reeves at 613-798-0365, by email at sharon.reeves@rogers.com, or go see her at the Global Justice Committee table after the services on September 8 and 15. The official opening of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship’s (UUFO) new home will be on September 29 next and will consist of two services, one at 10:30 am and the other at 4:00 pm at 400 McArthur Avenue in the Vanier community of Ottawa.. Official guests and out of town visitors will be at the latter
service. The Rev Fred Cappuccino will be in the pulpit at both services and will deliver a sermon entitled The Burning Bush. The UUFO greatly appreciates the support it has received from members of First Congregation. We will be pleased to welcome to either service. However, please be aware that seating is limited. There will be a reception following each service. The First Unitarian Church of Hamilton celebrates its 125th anniversary next year and I am writing its history. I could use some research help, for which I’d be happy to pay. There are records in the National Archives in Ottawa that relate to an incident in our history. I can be quite specific about what I’m looking for. If you have experience with the archives, I think this would be a fairly straight forward bit of research. If you are interested, please contact Bill Johnston at johnston.kaye@sympatico.ca or phone 905-523-7128.
The First Unitarian Congregation of Toronto, in partnership with World Accord, invites you to help build a school in the mountains of Honduras. This is a hands-on opportunity to make a difference in the lives of subsistence farmers and their families. Please join a two-week trip, beginning: January 11, February 8 or March 8, 2014. Construction and Spanish language skills are not required but would be
welcomed. For more information contact Richard Kirsh (416-767-5837 or richardkirsh@sympatico.ca) or see our poster on your congregation’s bulletin board. |
