Who We Are
Thus, our congregation is made up of people from different religious backgrounds, ethnicities, and races. As a part of the worldwide community of Unitarian Universalism, we have two designations: We are a Welcoming Congregation. We embrace bisexual, gay, lesbian, and/or transgender (BGLT) people into our spiritual community and work to promote acceptance, inclusion, understanding, and equity for BGLT people and families in Ottawa and society at large.

The First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa, which dates back to the late 1800s, encompasses people from many faith traditions, including those who identify as Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Pagans, Atheists, Agnostics, Humanists, and others.
We are a Green Sanctuary Congregation. We have made a commitment to the Earth by creating a sustainable life style for our members as individuals and as a faith community. Sustainable living is about nurturing life, building relationships, and rejecting material consumption as the sole determinant of happiness.
