Volunteer Opportunities

Getting more involved in congregational life is a great way to deepen your social and spiritual connections to our community.  Volunteering is also a way to exercise your skills as well as learn new ones.

Join a Committee/Council.  Our committees and councils are the backbone of the congregation.  Their members oversee every aspect of our community from taking care of our building, to hiring staff, to setting the budget.  Call or e-mail a Chair to see what you can do to help. Learn more about joining a committee/council.

Take Action.  Are you interested in issues of social justice and environmental sustainability?  Or are you interested in caring and supporting those around you?   You’ll find ways to express your beliefs and concerns through the many groups in our congregation who work to build awareness of issues and help those in need. Find out how you can take action.

Become a VSOP.  Volunteer Support Office Personnel, also known as Very Special Office Persons (VSOPs), work morning or afternoon shifts in the office, handling administrative tasks such as answering the phone, sorting mail, and keeping records.  Think this might suit you? Contact our Director of Support Services.

Be Part of a Program.  Sing in one of our choirs, help out with children on Sunday mornings, be a mentor to the young people in our congregation, or offer pastoral care.  Interested?  The Directors of our programs provide training and opportunities for volunteers. Contact the directors of our programs.

Walk on the “Words” Side.  We have lots of opportunities for wordsmiths and text designers.  You could be on the website writing team; edit and lay out The Parkway Spire, our monthly newsletter; or proof e-UUOttawa, a weekly online bulletin. Contact our Publications Officer for more information.
