Becoming a Member

When you become a member of the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa, you become a vital part of our spiritual and social community and can participate in the decision-making that determines the future of the congregation.

If you are a newcomer and curious about our faith and congregation or have been coming for a while and are considering membership, we recommend that you take "Introducing Ourselves," a course offered by Reverend John Marsh to help you become acquainted with UU-ism and our congregation.

Members' Rights and Responsibilities

Congregational members are:

  • Expected to contribute a responsible share (what personal circumstances permit) toward meeting congregational financial needs.
  • Encouraged to take part in the community’s volunteer activities.
  • Have the right to vote at congregational meetings.
  • Have the right to serve on congregational committees as members or chairpersons.
  • Have the right to serve on the Board of Directors.
  • Have the right to serve as delegates to UU activities and assemblies.
