Newcomer Courses: 2010-2011
We offer two courses for people who are either new to Unitarian Universalism or are new Members of the congregation: Introducing Ourselves and Mapmaking.
These courses are designed to help you acquire more knowledge about First Unitarian and our faith as well as give you a starting point for your own spiritual journey. Registration is required; there is no fee.
For more information, download the Newcomer Courses Brochure.
INTRODUCING OURSELVES: FALL, 2011
This course, led by Rev. John Marsh at First Unitarian, has two formats: one full day, or four evenings.
Full-day Format:
Saturday, November 26, 9:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., lunch included
or
Four-Evening Format:
Tuesday, November 1,8,15 and 22, 7:30 p.m.-9:15 p.m.
Becoming part of a spiritual community is energizing and exciting. It is also a slow, sometimes random, sometimes lonely process, fraught with moments of uncertainty. This course provides you with information that can help you make decisions that are informed and intentional.
In this course, we will:
- Ask you to share some information about your own spiritual journey thus far.
- Talk about Unitarianism and Universalism and how they merged and meandered across centuries and continents.
- Describe the history of our particular congregation and its current status.
- Have current members speak of how they came to be involved here and what the congregation means to them.
It is best to commit yourself to attending the whole course, but those with conflicting obligations are invited to attend whatever parts of the course they can.
Allthough we recommend that everyone who is interested in becoming a congregational member take this course, your attendance does not commit you to anything. Some of you may want to become members of the congregation right away. Some may want to think it over for a while. Others may decide not to join at all. It is all good. John Marsh
