COURSES
SINGING MEDITATION
Facilitator: Nicky Duenkel, Director of Lifespan Learning
When: Sundays, January 30, February 27, March 27, and April
24, 4:00 p.m.
Where: First Unitarian, Lower Level, Room 5
Taste the bliss of a song sung deeply
into your soul. Songs are drawn from
a variety of spiritual paths: Earthcentred,
Sufi, Hindu, Christian,
and Jewish. You need not be an
experienced singer to participate
as the songs are short and easily
learned.
BUILDING YOUR OWN THEOLOGY (PART II)
Co-leaders: Donna Bowen-Willer
When: Tuesdays, February 15 (corrected)-April 19, 7:30 p.m.
Where: First Unitarian, TBA
Designed by R.S. Gilbert and based on the assumption that everyone is their own theologian, this program invites participants to develop their "personal credos,"--the fundamental religious beliefs, values and convictions that inform and direct how they live their lives.
This course continues the credo development
process by focusing
on various theological questions to
help participants understand and
articulate their own belief systems.
New participants are welcome.
To register: Contact adultlearning@firstunitarianottawa.ca
ONGOING GROUPS

NOBLE BIRDS SPIRIT CIRCLES (monthly)
When: Third Saturday of the month,
3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Where: First Unitarian, Lower Level, Room 6
The Noble Birds Young
Adult group welcomes people of all
ages to join their egalitarian and
collaborative Spirit Circle initiative, a multi-voice, multi-format,
lay-led and participant-oriented
gathering aimed at
meeting the spiritual needs of young
adults, but inclusive of all. At each
gathering, we will address a “theme”
using multi-disciplinary lenses
(theological, philosophical, historical,
psychological) and multiple formats
(discussions, music, poetry,
meditation).
All are welcome
to contribute a short presentation,
to participate in group discussions, or to be
a silent observer.
MEDITATION GROUP (weekly)
When: Wednesdays,
7:30-8:45 p.m.
Where: First Unitarian, Room 3
Join the group in October for special fall programs. The first will be basic meditation to give a ground of practice. We will follow this with practice and study from Pema Chodron’s CD series, “Good Medicine,” which develops Compassion Meditation. You are also welcome to join us at any time and practice any meditation that you normally do. Clea Derwent, an authorized meditation instructor, will help anyone new to meditation.
INTEGRAL PHILOSOPHY (bi-weekly)
Co-leaders: Valerie Cousins and Dale Wilson
When: Alternate
Saturdays,
9:30–11:00 a.m.
Where: First Unitarian, Lower Level
Can one be both spiritual and rational? The wisdoms of the great teachings were all developed before Newton, Freud, Darwin, and Einstein lived. How would Buddha or Jesus have taught differently if they had known the earth was round and that evolution was taking place? With a focus on spirituality and enlightenment, this discussion group uses the works of Ken Wilber, author of Sex, Ecology, Spirituality and Integral Life Practice, to explore spirituality compatible with science and Unitarian Universalist principles.
